The project was financed to investigate the technical, economical & environmental feasibility of 32 KM stated roads in Terai and Hilly area of the country so as to continue with engineering design in future. The main purpose of this study was to investigate minimum three alternative alignments in terms of socio-economic factors of the influence area, traffic, topography, geology, environmental aspects, soil and other related factors along the alignment with maps, sketches, wherever necessary. Secondly, prepared order of magnitude of construction cost estimates for the alternative alignments based on reconnaissance field survey and a study of construction costs.
A realistic stage construction program for the project was outlined, which involved the investigation of alternative forms of standard of road construction with particular emphasis on material quality and availability, suitability for local conditions and capital and maintenance costs. Finally, investigated the cost of feeder roads.
