NEA Energy Efficiency and DSM: Impact Study of Compact Fluroscent

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) introduced a Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL) Distribution Program in 2009-10 to assist domestic customers save money on their electricity bills and to tackle power shortage crises.  Under the program NEA offered 1 free for lifeline customers and buy 1 get 1 free for all other domestic customers, high quality CFLs at reduced prices. The lamps were distributed through retail outlets in your area.

The Pilot CFL program has the potential to provide NEA with considerable insight into what was effective in the implementation of the CFL Program and how program could be improved and modified before a full scale implementation is conducted.

Overall Services provided by firm:

The study proposed to undertake a energy survey in Various districts of Nepal. The survey requirement included:

1. A total of 804 households in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kirtipur, Bhaktapur, Dhading, Rasuwa, Pokhara, Gorkha, Butwal, Gagandauda, Hetauda, Simara, Bharatpur, Kawasoti, Tandi, Sindhuli, Dharan were surveyed and questionnaires were filled;
2. Consumer Survey: This survey was conducted among a representative sample of consumers in all areas where the pilot CFL distribution program was implemented. The survey will be conducted among the program participants and non-participants to collect data required for estimating energy and demand savings, as well as data required for evaluating the program process and implementation approach.
3. Retailers and Vendor Survey: This survey was conducted among participating and non participating retail outlets and vendors of CFLs. The retailer was targeted within the areas covered by the pilot CFL distribution program but the vendors was covered at national level.
