Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion Project (SMDP) is located at Sindhuli District of CDR and the diverted water is projected to irrigate agricultural lands in Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha District through Bagmati Irrigation Project (BIP). The proposed command area of BIP is 122,000 hectares (Eastern Canal: 76600 ha Command Area( Sarlahi, Dhanusha ,and Mahottari Districts) and Western Canal: 45400 ha Command Area (Sarlahi, Rautahat and Bara Districts). The SMDP headwork is accessible from BP Highway which is 102 km far from Kathmandu. The powerhouse area is accessible from Sindhuli Bazar which is located at Kundule, 8 km gravel road connects the Kundule to Sindhuli market.
The main objective of this study is to perform detailed feasibility Study and Detailed Design of Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion Project. Four distinct component-wise objectives are:
A. Development of irrigation facilities in Bagmati Irrigation Project with the water of Sunkoshi River diverted to Marin River, which basically involves Renovation and extension of existing irrigation system of Bagmati Irrigation Project in about 122,000 hectares of land, to make conjunctive use of water of Bagmati River and water diverted from Sunkoshi River.
B. Review and assessment of the previous studies (Water Study, Master Plan of Bagmati River etc.)
C. Inventory Survey or irrigation System within the Bagmati Irrigation Project
